License grants

The first thing artists should look at before registering to a new platform (these things are growing like mushrooms), is the licensing terms in their “Terms of use” page. If they don’t have one, it’s best to ask about it.

Quite often you will see something like this:

“By posting any User Content via the Service, you expressly grant, and you represent and warrant that you have a right to grant, to the Company a royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, list information regarding, edit, translate, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, and make derivative works of all such User Content and your name, voice, and/or likeness as contained in your User Content, if applicable, in whole or in part, and in any form, media or technology, whether now known or hereafter developed, for use in connection with the Service.”

This is just a variation of the good old “all your content are belong to us”, and if you read carefully, you will understand that you need to be wary of what you post because you are forfeiting all your copyrights. Now it might be advantageous to do so in some case, provided you know exactly what you are going to gain from it, but think long and hard before uploading your work to these kinds of platforms if you don’t want your music abused without any legal way to take it down.

Recommended and Approved partners seal

To be able to recognize the good partners (radios, blogs, venues, etc.) in the unsigned world, we have designed 2 seals that registered partners will be able to use on their website and in their communication.

Recommended partners are the ones we highly recommend because they have the highest level of commitment to ethical use of music, and are willing to go the extra mile for artists. They will be able to use this seal:

Approved partners are the ones we approve because they have a certain level of commitment to ethical use of music, they will be able to use this seal:

So whenever you see these logos/seal on a partners website you will know that they are the “good” ones.

And if you are aware of partners who don’t have the seal yet and feel they should let them know that they should contact us and register.

And if you see partners who have the seal yet you think they are not doing things right, let us know and we will ask them more details about their practices.

In any case, you can use our Contact form, whether you’re a member or just a passer-by.

Video promos

Below are 3 very short video promos you can use in your social media to promote the Unsigned Coalition.
The mp4 sources will be available to all members via the private hub…

Artists, feel free to put your own music to it!
